Minutes from Bull Falls Brewers Meeting October 12, 2006
High Noon Saloon - 7:00 pm (Downtown Marathon)
Attendance = 9
November 4th is the National Teach a Friend to Brew Day. Matt and Jen
Seliger have offered to host the event for our area/club at their place
in the Town of Hamburg. Please bring a dish to pass. Grills' to be
provided by Matt. If you need any other information contact Matt and
Jen directly.
November 4th is also the "Brew Blast" at H&H. Our club has two
tables for a booth like last year and we are looking for beer to serve
at the event which goes from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tickets are $25.00 in
advance and $30.00 at the door. It was stated that everyone in the club
is on their own as far as acquiring tickets. Brett Danke said he would
be brewing a Mead at Matt's and would bring a carboy of a brown ale
he'll make the day before to the "Brew Blast" so that our booth would
have a working carboy. Brett talked about using a Plasma Display from
work for displaying a moving slide show of brew related pictures. It
was decided to use/brew one of the Brew Kits left over from the Edgar
Steam Show for the Brew Blast. Bill Flood is planning on brewing
it.
Brett gave the treasure's report.
Travis S. talked about the Great Herron Home Brew open being sponsored
by Central Waters. The top 5 ales and lagers win, the top beer selected
will be brewed on the brewery system and entered into the GABF Pro-Am
category.
Travis mentioned that he has located corny kegs for sale on eBay, he
has contacted the owner and will be picking up 17 kegs for BFHB club
members, the cost is $12 a piece plus some money to cover gas expense.
If you would like some kegs contact Travis.
H&H has asked us to find a new place to meet. The stipulation - we
need to eat there in order to meet there. A discussion ensued about
different places to meet. A mention was made to approach the management
again to talk to them about the club purchasing appetizers for our
meetings. They are a business, and have been allowing us meet there for
nothing, hopefully something can be resolved and we can continue to
meet at H&H.
There was some discussion about the Brew Blast and Teach A Friend
events being or substituting for our November meeting, next Meeting -
December 14th 2006? Location to be determined.
The club did a beer tasting of Northern English Brown Ale. Three
commercail samples were brought in. They were Newcastle Brown Ale, Sam
Adam's Brown Ale and Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale. The membership
compared these samples against the BJCP Guidelines for this style, in
preparation for the Golden Growler competion in spring 2007.
